G. Verdi Theater
The construction of the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theater was approved by the Municipal Council of Salerno on 15 December 1863, on the proposal of the then Mayor Matteo Luciani. The project and the direction of the works were based on the measures and proportions of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. The decoration works were instead directed by Gaetano D'Agostino, a painter of great value who was joined by the most prestigious names in the Neapolitan artistic world. The theater was inaugurated on April 15, 1872. Made unusable by the earthquake of 1980, the theater was closed for almost 14 years. It was renovated and re-inaugurated on 6 July 1994, during the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Salerno Capitale.
It is certainly one of the monuments to visit while staying in Salerno and is just a few steps away from the Chain Holder Suite.
Historic Center of Salerno
The historic center of Salerno is the beating heart of the city, the place from which the Salernitana culture was born and expanded. Among the alleys very similar to the city of Naples, it is possible to admire the hardworking and lively daily life of the citizens who keep unchanged the handicraft characteristics of the past. Among the alleys it is possible to admire various typical areas among which we recommend "Le Fornelle" an area entirely dedicated to the poet A. Gatto, a poet from Salerno who praised the city of Salerno through his verses. The many illustrations that are present on the walls of the district decorate and enliven the area. Walking through the alleys of the historic center it is also possible to admire historic buildings such as Palazzo Fruscione, Palazzo Avossa, San Pietro a Corte and many other buildings of considerable historical interest, our Cathedral, the spectacular Giardini della Minerva and continuing to climb up to the Arechi Castle.
Salerno Maritime Station
The maritime station of Salerno is the cruise terminal of the city. It is located on the Molo Manfredi of the port of Salerno and is directly connected with Piazza della Libertà, the Crescent and the city waterfront. The Hadid studio (who conceived it) defined the work as "an oyster with a hard outer shell that contains fluid and soft elements inside; a hardened cover that forms a protective shield from the intense Mediterranean sun" . With its sinuous lines, the terminal marks the transition from land to sea, from solid to liquid both aesthetically and functionally, strengthening the intimate relationship between the city and the sea front through an innovative design.
Luci d'Artista Salerno
Salerno is also the protagonist in winter with its "Luci d'Artista". Sculptural installations in the city center that fill the alleys of the historic center with color, giving a wonderful Christmas air.The Luci d'Artista are the most important event in Salerno: many tourists flock every year to see the Salerno light installations.
